My Reading List

Currently reading:

Reading Lolita in Tehran (Azar Nafisi)- One of those "I can't put this down books." Just started it today.

Yesterday I read two books:

The five people you meet in heaven (Mitch Albom)-predictable, but sweet I suppose. Too easy a read for me though. Got it as a Xmas present and finally read it. It did make me cry however, because the little love story made me think of Y. I need to cry about him still, I guess, until I don't need to anymore...

If I were writing this (Robert Creeley)-a bit more obscure than I am used to--somehow reminds me of his stuff in the 60's and 70's. One line from one poem made me dig out my journal where I wrote about my meeting with him. More about that another time.

Previous to those two books I read:

Ava (Carole Maso)-a second read, slower, more dissecting than the 1st time.

The Bookseller of Kabul (Aisne Sierstadt)-title very misleading. Very little about the bookseller and censorship issues (which is what the backmatter aludes to). Still, good book, though depressing. You feel as if you are reading about a time period much longer ago than just one year.

Bin Laden, Islam, and America's new "war on terrorism" (As`ad AbuKhalil)- Nice, succinct overview of middle east issues, for those of us who know relatively little. Misleading title however. And I hate that the bastard Bin Laden is on the cover.

Books I am reading ongoing:

Zen Guitar (Philip Toshio Sudo)- Excellent book for musicians and artists alike. I love this book. Wish I had it in hard-cover.

Let's Go London -Yes, I actually read travel books.

Ancient Egypt: An illustrated reference to the myths, religions, pyramids, and temples of the land of the pharaohs- sigh...just a heavy sigh...

The Voice of Knowledge (Don Miguel Ruiz)- Basically a repetition of The Four Agreements--one of my all-time favorite books. More on that book in a later post also.

If ever two were one: A private diary of love eternal (Francis Ellingwood Abbot)--Real journal of the love of one man for his wife. I wonder how this is ever possible...

Books I bought and will read after "reading lolita...":

The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho)- I was thinking about Y when I picked it up and opened it to a page that said something about a boy's journey to Egypt. Sold.

The Time Traveler's Wife (Audrey Niffenegger)- He's a librarian for godsake. And it's yet another sweet love story, so it says.

Books I thought about buying, handled, read some of, but changed my mind:

The Battle for Saudi Arabia (As`ad AbuKhalil)- Well, I just read one of his books. I really like the cover photograph though. And I like the size. Nice size. It felt good in my hands.

Billy Collins latest book, which I can't remember the title of now- the head of the upper school at Bflo's exclusive prep school read a poem of Collins' to the student body after his dog had died. I was impressed, not only with the poem, but with the head (mr. beautiful and sensitive and smart) (and my future husband--lol) as well.
